Drug Arrest Rate

County: Marathon
Measurement Period: 2023
This indicator shows the drug arrest rate per 100,000 population.
This indicator includes arrests due to the sale or possession of opium/cocaine, marijuana, synthetic narcotics, or other/unknown drugs.

Why is this important?

According to the Department of Justice, drug offenses account for over ten percent of arrests in the United States each year. A majority of arrests are the result of consumption, rather than production and distribution, of illicit substances. Drug offenders can drain family, community, and public safety resources. In addition, drug offenders have difficulty obtaining employment and undermine the economic vitality of neighborhoods. Alternatives to incarceration include drug courts and smart probation strategies.
